▲7 | reblogI’ve recently been reading Mark Yarm’s Everybody Loves Our Town which is pretty much the most accurate history of the Grunge moment. Anyway it’s all been an interesting read so far, but one thing that always really interested me (Not sure if this is covered in the book yet as I haven’t got that far into it) is that even when there was a huge moment in Seattle in terms of their own music, there were bands like Brotherhood who were a Straight Edge Youth Crew band in the late 80’s/early 90’s from Seattle. Seeming as New York and the east coast is where all the Youth Crew bands were from or playing at time and that in order to get records or zines you’d have to pretty much hope certain records were in stores or order something by mail order maybe? I don’t know, I just find it random that a Youth Crew band were there seemingly on the wrong coast at the same time as it was big (You could argue the peak of Youth Crew was 1988 in New York). Of course there was in the Riot Grrrl thing going on in the northwest/WA at the time too. Interestingly Brotherhood’s guitarist Nate went on to join Sub Popers Sunny Day Real Estate and then Foo Fighters with Dave Grohl, bringing the whole thing full circle for me. Anyway Brotherhoods LP is a pretty interesting listen, so get that one if you haven’t already.
It is a great CD. I can highly recommend it.
